I got pregnant accidentally when my first child was just 10 weeks old. When I found out I was pregnant with the 2nd child, my OB asked me if I wanted to keep the baby because she thought there were risks. We now have
a 13 month old and a 3 month old. My children would have been 11 months
apart but I experienced major complications from my 2nd pregnancy which
put me into the hospital on bed rest from 31 weeks until my 2nd child
was delivered at 34+ weeks, so they are 10 months apart. I had placenta previa and placenta incretta, which are both complications from a pregnancy so recent after a c-section. I ended up having a hysterectomy as well during the 2nd c-section.
I think there are definitely some risks associated with having a 2nd child so soon after the first c-section. My OB told me that you may appear to be healed on the outside (except for the scar), but on the inside, you are not. When I was first experiencing my complications from the 2nd pregnancy at 30+ weeks, my OB initially thought the baby was kicking internally and disturbing my internal scar tissue, causing bleeding. She was wrong and my condition was much more serious, but my point is that she was not surprised I was having issues with the 2nd pregnancy. I would really ask your doctor to explain a lot of the risks to you in detail because having gone through this all so recently (Summer 2009), it is NOT something you want to experience without being well-prepared. For example, you might want to prepare yourself that you could have the baby very early and that it might have to be in the NICU.
We're all happy and healthy now... just some advice from someone who just went through this all and it was NOT fun. Good luck.
